Looking for something fun to do with the kids during the holidays? Check out these ideas for crafts, gifts, and games!
Family Wreath – Show everyone who visits your home what a special family you have by creating a family wreath! Create paper decorations in all shapes, and decorate the shapes with your names, hobbies, pets, etc. Then tie the shapes to any wreath with your favorite ribbon!
Ice Sun Catcher – Sun catchers aren’t just for summer! Pour water in ice cubes trays, and add a drop of food coloring to each cube before placing in the freezer overnight. The next day, fill a round cake pan 2/3 full of water (to make a hole for the ribbon, set a small plastic cup full of water in the pan) and place the pan in the freezer for 1 hour. Put the colored ice cubes in the pan, then let everything freeze solid. Remove the cup, flip the sun catcher out of the pan, and hang outside with ribbon!
Snow Globes – Create, decorate and recycle! Empty a glass baby food jar. Glue small plastic or foam figures on the bottom of the lid. Place a small amount of glitter in the jar and fill with water. Put on the lid tightly and shake to see a blizzard in your snow globe!
Window Clings – Skip cleaning your windows and just decorate them! Purchase various colors of fabric paint in squeeze bottles. On a piece of wax paper, draw various shapes with the paint (snowflakes, bells, holly leaves) and be sure all the paint lines connect. Let it dry overnight, then peel it carefully from the waxed paper and place on your windows!
Snow Golf – Snow should never deter anyone from a round of mini golf! Use the snow to create a unique course with hills and obstacles. Create flags with felt and sticks to mark each hole. You can even spray the snow with green food coloring (place a few drops in water and place in a plastic spray bottle) to make it look like a real golf course! Then dust off your golf clubs from the summer and play a few rounds!
New Years Crafts – Don’t forget about New Years Eve when getting crafty! Create masks or unique hats by folding paper (can be a sailor hat shape or a cone party hat shape) and decorate with a variety of supplies, like pipe cleaners, stickers, and glitter. Then make noise makers to use at midnight (or anytime) by placing beads in an empty plastic bottle, soup can, or pie tin. Happy New Year!
